Welcome to the web site for the Buena Vista Group located in Matteson and Chicago Heights. Currently, the Matteson office is functioning for all patient care. This is part of the medical practice of Dr. William B. Evans, M.D. The focus of the Buena Vista Group is on addiction medicine including alcohol, over-the-counter narcotics, street narcotics, and smoking. If you are having trouble controlling the use of any of these substances, please call us for an appointment for one-on-one counseling. I work with an R.N. and social workers that are trained in the field of Addiction Medicine.
The Buena Vista Group for Suboxone Prescribing for Narcotic Dependence
The use of narcotics, either purchased on the street or by abusing prescription drugs, is frequently characterized by a sense of “having a lid put on.” In other words, not being able to function at one’s highest level and having perception and mental functions dulled with the use of these medications. In recent years, a new narcotic has become available, Suboxone, that allows discontinuation of the traditional drugs of abuse, such as Vicodin, heroin, methadone, Tylenol No. 3, OxyContin, and fentanyl with improvement in mental function and general sense of well being.
Suboxone is a narcotic with little to no addiction potential. This is because of the drug’s chemical structure in contrast to other narcotics where increasing euphoria and increasing dependence are produced by increasing the dose, this medication quickly reaches its maximum beneficial effect, after which there is no further euphoric effect and no further craving for the medication. It also seems to be associated with much less clouding of the mind. Virtually everybody I have started on this medication has commented on how much better they feel in terms of being able to perceive things more clearly, process information, and think problems through.
